Erectile Dysfunction Drugs exist in several varieties: prescription drugs, natural male supplements, and controversial drug types, which are unproven or potentially hazardous.

Prescription drugs include the famous sildenafil, marketed under the name Viagra, which in the period from 99’-01’ had annual sales of over $1 Billion. Others include Cialis (tadalafil), unique in that its duration lasts up to 36 hours (hence the “Weekend Pill” designation) due to the slow breakdown of the chemical in the body.  Levitra (Vardenafil) with a longer, but comparable effective duration as Viagra, but also taken in smaller doses is another competitor on the market.
The aforementioned drugs all work with the same idea, and that is to relax the arteries in the penis allowing the corpus cavernosum to fill with blood, which is what allows the male to achieve and maintain an erection.

 Their side effects include nasal congestion, back pain, headaches, impaired vision, and dyspepsia - a chronic pain in the upper abdomen; while other users of these drugs complained of seeing everything with a blue tint in their vision. Some more serious side effects include heart attacks, strokes, and sudden hearing loss. In particular of the latter, the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) required all of the aforementioned drugs be labeled of the inherent risk of hearing loss.

Viagra was originally created as a way to treat or manage heart disease, but researchers soon found that while it did not help in case of the former, that the subjects received erections due to consumption of the pill.

Since then Viagra has been looked at as a possible way to alleviate altitude sickness, as well as a more grave and rare disease of arterial hypertension as it was stated previously its ability to relax the arteries in the body, Athletes claim to use it as well to boost their performance for much the same reason, believing that with wide open blood vessels they can reach new performance levels.

Herbal Male Supplements, such as Sinrex, contain natural ingredients, thus without the potential side effects, and include many helpful ingredients that include Nitrous Oxide which is key in relaxing the blood vessels. With it’s supplement and energy 2-in-1 system males can achieve more rigid erections, and increased orgasm pleasure.

Controversial drugs include Enzyte, who’s former owner and CEO was convicted of 112 counts, including mail fraud, bank fraud, and money laundering among others, and forfeited $500 million in assets. They also had many complaints launched against them for having no scientific data to backup their claims.

Another drug in limited use, Naltrexone. Primarily for drug addicts who experience decreased sexual drive.

A nasal spay by the name of Bremelanotide does not work on the arteries as typical of ED drugs, but rather is meant to increase the sex drive and sexual desire of the user, male or female.

Ultimately, the solution for erectile dysfunction rests on proper diagnosis, and treatment of the present ED cause. How ED is treated can be accomplished in various manners as seen from the drug options available, but as with most problems is best prevented when possible.
